About Us
Fuel Relief Fund originated out of a quest to provide a basic fuel source for victims immediately following the devastation of a natural disaster. In September 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast states leaving nothing but devastation in its path. Due to a lack of fuel, victims were unable to find the food, water and shelter required to survive. Soon after, two of our current board members send a “fuel relief” tanker truck from California filled with gasoline to Mississippi, and then on to Louisiana. In both locations survivors of the hurricane were given free gasoline to run their automobiles and generators aiding them in their time of need. This prompted the beginning of the non-profit organization called Fuel Relief Fund.
Fuel Relief Fund became a non-profit 501(c)3 in March of 2009. Less than a year later, a terrible earthquake struck in Haiti and left many people homeless. This practically left the entire country without power. Fuel Relief Fund immediately responded and provided fuel for generators, thus enabling lights to function, medical equipment to run, and food to be cooled. For almost 3 months Fuel Relief Fund was present in Haiti and fueled generators at hospitals, clinics, orphanages and tent cities.
We continue to provide fuel for those currently in need in Japan. After a 9.0 earthquake struck off the eastern coast, a devastating tsunami demolished nearly all in its path of destruction. Those who survived are left without food, water, shelter and a way to keep warm. On March 16, Fuel Relief Fund traveled to Japan and is now providing free heating oil to the citizens of Ishinomaki. With the help of donations and volunteers Fuel Relief Fund can continue to provide fuel for those in need.
